Netflix’s Top Movies in March 2026 — The Numbers, The Ratings, The Honest Verdict

The premise sounds absurd — and director Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3, The Hitman’s Bodyguard) knows it. U.S. Army Ranger trainees are partway through a survival exercise in the Colorado wilderness when they discover something in the woods that is decidedly not part of the test: a giant alien killing machine that has apparently arrived on Earth ahead of schedule and is now systematically destroying everything in range. What follows is a mix of Predator, War of the Worlds, and classic 80s action cinema that does exactly what it promises and approximately nothing more.

Alan Ritchson plays the film’s protagonist — a trainee known only as “81,” a grieving soldier whose brother was killed during a rescue mission in Afghanistan and who has enrolled in Ranger selection to complete his brother’s dream. His character is given a specific emotional architecture — quiet, self-reliant, reluctant to lead — that the film uses to generate the standard arc of someone learning to trust their team. The cast around him includes Dennis Quaid and Esai Morales as the Academy’s commanding officers, Jai Courtney as an underused veteran, and Stephan James and Keiynan Lonsdale as fellow trainees. Filming took place in Victoria, Australia and Queenstown, New Zealand.

Both Ritchson and director Hughes have confirmed plans for a sequel — informally titled War Machines — already mapped out, pending Netflix approval. The film released theatrically in Australia on February 12 before its global Netflix debut on March 6.

Jurassic World Rebirth was the franchise’s attempt at a genuine soft reboot after Jurassic World: Dominion’s critical drubbing in 2022. The result is a film that critics found aggressively average — 69% on Rotten Tomatoes — but that audiences turned up for in force: $869.1 million worldwide at the box office against a $180 million budget, making it profitable despite being the lowest-grossing Jurassic World film and the first in the franchise not to cross $1 billion.

The “franchise halo” effect is visible in the Netflix Top 10 itself: all three Jurassic World films were charting simultaneously the week of March 7, with Rebirth at #2 and the 2015 original at #5. Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey lead a new cast as two of three characters sent to a remote tropical island to retrieve medical samples — an excuse to put new faces in familiar dinosaur territory. When KPop Demon Hunters arrived on Netflix on June 20, 2025, the entertainment press covered it with polite curiosity. Nobody predicted what came next. Within six weeks it had surpassed The Electric State to become Netflix’s most-watched original animated film of all time. Within three months it had overtaken Red Notice — Netflix’s previous most-watched film ever, with 364 million views — to become the platform’s most-watched title of any kind. Sony Pictures Animation produced the film with music from producers behind BTS, BLACKPINK, and TWICE — Teddy Park, Lindgren, Jenna Andrews, and Stephen Kirk among them. The story follows HUNTR/X, a three-woman K-pop group comprising Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira, and Zoey who secretly moonlight as supernatural demon slayers, using their music to create a magical shield protecting humanity from soul-eating demons. The voice cast also includes Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Joel Kim Booster, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun.

The soundtrack became its own cultural phenomenon: four songs reached the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10. “Golden” — the film’s centrepiece track — earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song and won a Grammy. The film charted on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 for 25 consecutive weeks, a record for any animated title. For the 2026 Academy Awards (ceremony March 15), it is nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song — and is the frontrunner for both, having already won both Golden Globes and having performed “Golden” live at the BAFTAs.

Rian Johnson’s third Benoit Blanc mystery — after Knives Out (2019) and Glass Onion (2022) — released in December 2025 and has been a consistent Netflix performer since. Daniel Craig’s Blanc is summoned to investigate the impossible murder of a Catholic monsignor at a small, isolated church in upstate New York. The prime suspect, according to local gossip and the evidence as first presented, is Father Jud Duplenticy — played by Josh O’Connor, whose work in The Crown and Challengers has made him one of the most in-demand actors working today.

The film also co-stars Kerry Washington, Glenn Close, and a cast that the Knives Out franchise has made a tradition of assembling from across the prestige-television and film landscape. Johnson’s signature is a mystery structure that gives the audience all the information they need to solve the case while constructing the puzzle in a sequence specifically designed to prevent them from doing so until the film is ready to show its hand. The third instalment is, by several critical measures, the franchise’s most technically accomplished.

Guillermo del Toro spent years trying to bring his Frankenstein adaptation to the screen. When it finally arrived on Netflix in 2025, it became both the critical darling and the Oscar contender that his supporters had been anticipating — and the film that, in his own words, was designed to “test the capabilities of every single craft in moviemaking.” Nine Oscar nominations confirmed the result, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor for Jacob Elordi’s performance as the Creature.

Del Toro’s Frankenstein is a faithful adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel, which means it is primarily a story of isolation, abandonment, and the moral responsibility of creation — told through the relationship between Victor Frankenstein and the being he has made and refused to love. The film won three BAFTA awards — Production Design, Makeup & Hair, and Costume Design — before the Oscars, confirming the craft credentials. Oscar Isaac plays Victor. Mia Goth co-stars. The score is by Alexandre Desplat, who received his own Oscar nomination.

Peaky Blinders ended its TV run in 2022, with creator Steven Knight promising the Shelby story was not finished. Four years later, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man arrives on Netflix March 20, 2026 — a feature-length film directed by Tom Harper (who directed several Peaky Blinders TV episodes), written by Knight, with Cillian Murphy returning as Tommy Shelby in a story set in 1940, placing the character within the context of World War II for the first time.

Barry Keoghan and Rebecca Ferguson join the cast as new additions to the Shelby universe. The film was in select theatres before its Netflix arrival.
